The Sensual Heart of aétai

Introducing, aétai eau de parfum

Deriving its name from the Algonquian word meaning, “on both sides”, our new, evocative perfume balances swoon-worthy notes of wild florals such as Cape rose, iris, and dark violets with aquatic and green tuber stems before folding effortlessly into the sensual heart of the fragrance; sumptuous layers of warm woods, exotic spice, and carnal ambergris notes.

Our Fragrances Tell a Story

Aétai was conceived as a scent of bold, complementary contrasts inspired by the multifaceted culture, history, and landscapes of the Northeast. Like all of our of destination-inspired fragrances, the region of inspiration informed our selection of lead notes, with the complexity and nuance achieved through a wide range of supporting raw ingredients that sustain and exalt aétai’s narrative.

Where Art Meets Science

The first step in making aétai was the formulation of fragrance accords that, together, would capture the story we wanted to tell. We created 4 distinct accords for aétai: Cape Rose Accord which gives the fresh floral, green, and coastal facet; Dark Violet Accord that adds in warmer, powdery floral notes as a bridge to the heart and base of the scent; Seafarer Accord, the “sensual heart” of the fragrance, with sweet resins, ambergris, and animalic undertones, and, lastly; Black Walnut Accord that adds a sharp, bittersweet facet for added lift and edge. United, these accords give aétai its depth and illustrate its duality of light and dark, fresh and warmth, sensuality and sophistication.

The final (and most vital) stage of development is the work done at the fragrance manufacturer. Here, our formula is taken under wing and brought to life. We entrusted our new perfume to Firmenich’s boutique fragrance division, Agilex Fragrances–our partner for i’khana and various home scents. Perfumer Kingsley Ibe masterfully refined our formula utilizing Firmenich’s world-renowned palette of raw ingredients and captives to bring the fragrance to its final form. Having access to such a palette (and master perfumers who know how to use it!) is what elevates aétai to a world-class fragrance.

We love this part of the development but, most importantly, it also ensures our fragrances not only smell great but adhere to the highest standards of sustainability and quality.

aétai notes: Rambling Rose, Wild Iris, Violet, Jasmine Sambac, Pink Pepper, Clove, Sandalwood, Olebanum, Oakmoss, Amber woods, Patchouli. (Frag/vol 20%)

New by Design

aétai is our first fragrance to use our new, proprietary glass bottle and metal caps.

We took the opportunity of a new fragrance launch and redesigned the bottle with pronounced front facets and a flat back for a more comfortable, tactile feel. The black metal caps take the shape of our logo for a distinct yet understated look. On the edge of the bottle you’ll find the “adage” name embossed into the glass–a detail carried over from our iconic candle and diffuser vessels. The new shape and heavier weight of the glass and metal caps gives an undeniably luxurious experience in the hand.
